What’s the SmoothSkin Story?
Way back in 1979, a scientist stumbled across the basis of light-based hair removal technology when he accidentally ran a laser beam across his forearm and was surprised to spot that the hair didn’t grow back. He went on to develop the world’s first hair removal lasers, and in 2002, he joined forces with three other local entrepreneurs (a scientist, an engineer and a businessman, to be precise) to create Cyden – the brains behind the SmoothSkin brand.
The rest, as they say, is history.

With our own team of industry experts based right here at SmoothSkin HQ, we dedicate 100% of our time and resources to researching, designing, engineering, producing and even testing our state of the art IPL technology, so we like to think we’re the best at that.

We have our own clinical and research teams in-house too! From studying the interaction of light, skin and hair at a cellular level through to investigating the most effective pre- and post- treatment care, we’re constantly testing and learning so you get the best possible results from your SmoothSkin product. With our very own clinical suites on site at HQ, our team work non-stop to make sure that the technology we’re developing works to its full potential, leaving no stone unturned in the quest for long-lasting hair reduction.
We even complete tests in vitro (that’s in glass to you and me!) to better understand the science behind the technology and its interaction with the skin, along with participating in regular collaborations with international experts in aesthetic laser and surgical skin treatments, to make sure we’re always one step ahead of the hair removal crowd.
